Spotline V2: Rigging the Spotline

The Spotline is designed to use ¼” Wire Rope
Wire rope enters at the motor side of drum and loads towards the outside
Forward is:
When more rope is pulled/spooled onto the drum, lifting the effect
Drum rotation is clockwise - when looking at the drum side of the machine
Drum rotation is counterclockwise - when looking at the motor side of the machine
When the top of drum rolls towards the connectors
The top cable keeper doubles as the Cross-Groove Detection
The rope should come directly off the drum and not interfere with the cable keeper(s) or other framing members
¼”-20 SHCS at either end to secure the rope
Additional termination not required, but a swage stop can be used on wire rope, or stopper knot on a fibrous rope.
Double entry at center is drilled for easy entry from either direction
Internal termination required
Ensure that any excess rope is removed or well secured inside the drum to prevent tangling, catching and possibly machine failure!
Jog the machine until the cable entry hole nearest the motor is accessible and on the correct side of the cable keeper for wire rope path
Run the end of the rope through all of the necessary pulleys and into entry hole 1 on the drum nearest the motor
Secure the rope using the ¼”-20 screw, leaving a minimal tail of 3-6 inches. Make sure the wire sits nicely inside the drum and does not protrude out of the drum near any moving parts.
You can additionally terminate the wire rope with a NicoPress Stop Sleeve
Slowly jog the machine forward while holding light tension on the line to spool the rope onto the drum
First point enters at the motor side of the drum and loads towards the center of the drum - Entry Point 1
Second point enters at the center and loads towards the outside - Entry Point 2
Jog the machine until the cable entry hole nearest the motor is accessible and on the correct side of the cable keeper for wire rope path
Run the end of the first rope through all of the necessary pulleys and into entry hole 1 on the drum nearest the motor
Run the end of the second rope through all the necessary pulleys and into entry hole 2 at the center of the drum
Terminate the wire rope with NicoPress Stop Sleeve, leaving a minimal tail of 3-6 inches. Again, ensure that the tail sits fully inside drum and away from any moving parts
Slowly jog the machine forward while holding light tension on the lines to spool the rope onto the drum
The rope will travel along the length of the drum as it is spooled on and off during normal operations resulting in a constantly changing fleet angle. This will actually slightly change the position of a scenic unit hanging directly under the drum (in a deadlift scenario). If you’re using diverter pulleys to get to your hanging location, ensure that there is adequate distance between the Spotline and the first pulley.
Typically at least 10’ to first pulley
MAX Fleet: 1.5°
[DRAWING OF SPOTLINE V2 GOING TO TURNDOWN PULLEY]
Performer flying often requires a dynamic hanging point, allowing the performer to move or swing around while the winch is in motion.
Secure the Spotline
Place a rigid pulley at least 10’ away from the Spotline to mitigate fleet
At the hanging point, use an approved, enclosed pulley with an appropriate soft point, such as an appropriately rated sling.
TIP: To improve rotational stability, use a swivel when connecting to scenery or performers to allow the rope to twist as needed. If space allows, a second swivel can be placed between the drum and the first rigid pulley.
