# Position Trigger

<figure><img src="/files/Xg6sQFfI4ZKAjeUkFtTN" alt="Position Trigger"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

A position trigger waits for a specified motor to reach or pass a target position, and then starts the following step.

For example if the position trigger is set at 100 inches and the motor is running forward then the trigger is looking for a position greater than or equal to 100 inches. If the motor is running in reverse then the trigger is looking for a position less than or equal to 100 inches.

## Editing

After you have [added a position trigger](/docs/spikemark-6/cues/cue-creation/add-triggers.md) click it to open the trigger editor.

* Select the motor that you want to monitor from the "Motor" dropdown list.
* Enter the target position in the "Watch Position" field.
* Click the "Save Changes" button to save your changes.

{% hint style="info" %}
The target motor doesn't have to be running on the same playback as the position trigger.
{% endhint %}
