# Delay Trigger

<figure><img src="/files/TW6JtoGT06klG6uOVpR7" alt="Delay Trigger"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

A delay trigger waits the programmed number of seconds after the step has started, and then starts the following step.

## Editing

After you have [added a delay trigger](/docs/spikemark-6/cues/cue-creation/add-triggers.md) click it to open the trigger editor.

<figure><img src="/files/01azUCqJqWD7SVloJR8Q" alt="Delay Trigger Editor"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* Enter the number of seconds to wait before starting the next step.
* Click the "Save Changes" button to save your changes.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Note that the delay starts as soon as the step starts. If you want the delay to start **after** the step has completed then [stack](/docs/spikemark-6/triggers/stacking-triggers.md) the delay trigger with a [completion trigger](/docs/spikemark-6/triggers/completion-trigger.md).
{% endhint %}
